Religions in India

In India there are several different religions. The biggest one is Hinduism, with ca. 80% of the population. In second comes Islam with 13.5%, and then Christianity with 2.3%, and Sikhism with 1.9%. India is the birthplace of the religions Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. The Indian religions and culture has brought e.g. meditation, vegetarianism and karma.
In India there has been a lot of violence because of religion, also politics has been strongly affected by the religions there. Since India became independent in 1947 there have been periods with conflicts between the Hindu side and the Islam side. Religious riots have killed thousands of Indians since then.
